There are seven life stages in The Sims 2. Children and adults have indefinite lifespans, and cannot die via aging. There are also hacked objects which can allow a child to function as an adult, or vice versa. There are third-party programs which can grow a child into an adult. This change is permanent and cannot be reversed. Children do not grow up into adults, although the Makin' Magic expansion allows magical children to grow up by using the Age of Instant charm, however their head will be completely randomized and may not look like they did when they were a child.
